Democracy is a system of governance based on citizen participation, political equality, constitutional principles, and accountable institutions. Its importance in modern society extends beyond elections because democratic systems can provide mechanisms for protecting rights, resolving political differences, encouraging public participation, and holding authorities accountable. This paper examines major dimensions of democracy and its role in strengthening modern society, including political participation, constitutional government, rule of law, human rights, accountability, social inclusion, civic education, media, and contemporary challenges.
