Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Cuadernos de Historia Cultural welcomes original and scholarly contributions that advance research and discussion in the field of cultural history and related areas of the humanities and social sciences. The journal particularly encourages manuscripts that present original research, critical interpretations, theoretical reflections, historiographical discussions, and interdisciplinary approaches. Authors should ensure that submitted manuscripts are relevant to the scope of the journal and make a clear contribution to existing academic knowledge.

Manuscripts should be original, well-structured, and written in clear academic language. Authors should provide an informative title, an abstract that briefly presents the purpose, methodology or approach, principal arguments or findings, and conclusions of the study, together with appropriate keywords. The main text should be logically organized, with clearly identifiable sections and appropriate headings where necessary. Authors should ensure that the manuscript is sufficiently developed to communicate the research question, theoretical or conceptual framework, methodology or analytical approach, discussion, and conclusions effectively.

Authors are expected to follow accepted academic standards for research and scholarly writing. The manuscript should contain accurate and properly documented information, and all sources, quotations, interpretations, tables, figures, and other materials derived from external works should be appropriately acknowledged. References should be presented consistently according to the citation and referencing style adopted by the journal. Authors should carefully verify the accuracy and completeness of bibliographic information before submission.

All manuscripts are expected to meet appropriate standards of research integrity. Authors should ensure that their work is original and should not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Any form of plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate manipulation of data, duplicate publication, or substantial undisclosed overlap with previously published work is unacceptable. Where research involves human participants, personal data, interviews, archival restrictions, or other ethical considerations, authors should ensure that all relevant ethical requirements have been appropriately addressed.

Where a manuscript has multiple authors, all listed authors should have made a meaningful contribution to the research and preparation of the manuscript. The corresponding author should ensure that all authors have reviewed and approved the submitted version and agree with its submission. Any changes to authorship after submission should be communicated to the editorial office and appropriately justified.

Authors should disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, interpretation, or presentation of the manuscript. Sources of financial or institutional support relevant to the research should also be acknowledged where applicable. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted or otherwise restricted third-party material when such permission is required.

Manuscripts should be submitted in an editable electronic format and prepared carefully before submission. Authors should check spelling, grammar, terminology, formatting, citations, references, tables, figures, captions, and supplementary materials before submitting. Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively, referred to appropriately in the text, and supplied with clear titles or captions. Any supplementary material necessary for understanding or evaluating the research should be clearly identified.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to editorial assessment and peer review. The editorial team may initially evaluate submissions for relevance, originality, academic quality, presentation, and compliance with the journal's requirements. Manuscripts considered suitable for further consideration may then be sent to qualified reviewers. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in response to editorial or reviewer comments. Revised manuscripts should clearly address the requested changes and may be subject to further evaluation before a final editorial decision is made.

Authors should respond professionally and constructively to reviewer and editorial comments. When submitting a revised manuscript, authors should provide a clear explanation of how the comments have been addressed and identify substantial changes made to the manuscript. The final decision regarding publication rests with the editorial team in accordance with the journal's editorial and peer-review procedures.

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the information provided is accurate and that the submission complies with the journal's academic, ethical, and editorial requirements. Cuadernos de Historia Cultural reserves the right to request clarification, additional documentation, or revisions when necessary to ensure the scholarly quality and integrity of published material.
